THE Right Reverend George Takeli is the new Archbishop elect of the Anglican Church of Melanesia.
He was elected on Friday by the church’s Provincial Election Board.
Reverend Takeli is currently the bishop of the Diocese of Temotu province.
The election was held at the TNK, headquarters of the Sisters of the Church at the Tenaru area, east of Honiara.
According to a statement from the church, Rev. Takeli, 56, was raised at Suholo village on Ulawa Island, Makira-Ulawa Province.
He was ordained to the priesthood in 1995 and was a priest in the Anglican Church for 16 years before being made the Bishop of Temotu province.
The statement said he also holds a Masters Degree in Theology from Auckland University, New Zealand.
Bishop Takeli will be enthroned on the 17th of April 2016 at the Saint Barnabas Provincial Cathedral in Honiara.
He succeeded Archbishop David Vunagi who retired September of last year.
