CHIEF Biosecurity Officer from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) Max Kolubalona appeals on all communities to participate actively in the fight against eradicating coconut rhinoceros beetle.
In an interview with the Solomon Star he said that the fight is very important that everyone must actively participate in.
“Communities must take this seriously and participate in this campaign,” Mr Kolubalona said.
He added that communities must ensure they cut down dead coconut trees and look out to kill the beetles.
“Currently we are focusing on Honiara and sometimes early next year we will move out to the provinces to conduct similar campaign,” he said.
“I would like to call on all communities to please cut down dead coconut trees because we might not reach them.
“Dead coconut trunks standing are the breeding places for beetle so we must cut them down.
“Let us not wait for someone else to come and kill it for us. Let us do something about it,” he said.
Mr Kolubalona has thanked the government of New Zealand for assisting them with funds to carry out the campaign.
