Communities of Maneasinimae and Taumaetarau in ward 23 of small Malaita constituency in Malaita province have taken ownership of new water supply project on Friday.
This means that women and children of Palasu’u, Rota, Oloha and Wapu villages will no longer walk far distance like before to collect water for their daily use.
These are the communities that benefited from this water supply project.
Men, women and children of these communities are full of praise and joy when they receive the new water supply system.
The handing over ceremony was held at Palasu’u community where close to hundreds of communities members come and witness the program.
The water supply project was funded by European Union and Australian government at the cost of $1.12million.
Speaking at the handing over chief and chairman of Maneasinimae and Taumaetarau Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (RWASH) committee William Maihoro said communities here are happy as they will no longer walk for far distance to fetch water like before.
He said since the broke down of the water supply some years back, these communities have been faced with daily challenges of collecting water.
He said this will not be the case now as the communities now take ownership of new water system on their own.
He thanked the two major donors for funding the water project for respective communities.
He also thanked all participating stake holders for the collective effort which see these communities achieve one of long-time dream of having clean and fresh water supply to their door step.
RWASH representative Peter Tofuala thanked the community members for working together toward the successful completing of the water supply project.
He assured the communities that RWASH deliver tools to the communities to help them sustain and maintain the water supply system.
As part of appreciating the work of the communities’ guest of honour and director of Malaita province Health Authority Dr Hendry Kako presented certificate of recognition these communities water supply project.
