THE decision made by Honiara City Ward Councillors in merging to form the current ruling executive under the leadership of Andrew Mua as the new City Mayor has received great commendation by former politician, Jim Sevesi.
Speaking to the Solomon Star on Tuesday, Mr Sevesi spoke highly of the move made by the Councillors prior to the mayor’s election few weeks ago.
“I commended the elected City Councillors for merging to form a collective executive and the opposition at the two camps formed by them prior to the recent election for the new City Mayor.
“It was a responsible decision made by the Councillors putting first the interest of the City than their own principles.
He said it was also encouraging to see that the former Mayor Alfrence Fatai is also a member to the newly formed executive.
However, Mr Sevesi said, the massive instabilities which has plagued the local government system in the country including the provinces is not workable at this stage.
“The system as experienced has outlived its application in the rural setting,” Sevesi stated.
Mr Sevesi is a former Honiara City Ward Councillor.
During his term as a Councillor, he also holds the Deputy Mayor’s post.
