The Democratic Coalition for Change Government has welcomed the plans of Malaita’s new Premier for Malaita Province.
Premier Peter Chanel Ramohia in his maiden speech in the Malaita Provincial Capital, Auki last Friday vowed to restore the pride of Malaitans as an industrious people and outlined his plans for the province.
Mr Ramohia said he will provide a credible, transparent and accountable leadership for Malaita Province and will build on the provinces existing development policies for economic growth.
The Premier urged the Democratic Coalition for Change Government to facilitate the implementation of national projects earmarked for Malaita Province.
These include the Auluta and Waisisi Palm Oil projects, Suava Loin Factory, Bina Habour seaport and the Liwe, Kandabina and Faumamanu Industrial Parks.
In response Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare said he is impressed with the determination displayed by the new Malaita Premier towards taking Malaita Province forward under his leadership.
Mr Sogavare said the spirit of determination is a necessary ingredient for the successful accomplishment of any plan and he is confident that Hon Ramohia will establish the platform for a new Malaita he aspires to bring about.
He said the DCC Government believes that the unity and stability of Solomon Islands lies in addressing the development needs of Malaita Province.
He said his government looks forward to working with the Malaita Provincial Government and all other provincial governments address the development needs of their provinces.
The Prime Minister said he will be beckoning all provincial premiers to Honiara soon to look at his DCC Government’s Development Policy intentions to get their views before the document is finalised and launched.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also welcomed declaration by the new Central Islands Province Premier George Selwyn Mapuli that his government will pursue the revival of the Russell Islands Plantations Limited and Anuha Island Resort.
Mr Sogavare said these are important national projects that will help reinvigorate the national economy.
