A TAXI driver in Auki, Malaita, escaped injury when his car collided with a pick-up truck on Christmas eve.
Eye-witnesses said the driver was drinking and traveling at high speed when it collided head-on with the passenger truck.
Malaita provincial police commander Alfred Uiga confirmed the incident and added the driver escaped unhurt.
“The driver was safe but the taxi was damaged,” he said.
MrUiga added a passenger in the pick-up truck sustained injuries to his leg.
He said investigation into the case was underway and the driver was placed in police custody.
Mr Uiga warned drivers against driving while under the influence of alcohol.
