THE Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) has concluded a one-day workshop on Wednesday 3 September 2014 at the Hotel Kitano Mendana.
The workshop aimed to familiarise senior managers and heads of divisions with the restructuring program now underway at the ministry and to engage staff to progress the restructuring process by assessing and realigning current structures and to prepare job descriptions for positions for the structures.
Permanent Secretary, Dr Franco Rodie, in his opening remarks, made reference to the findings of the 2010 Review of the Education Sector Administration Structure that strongly suggested the need to restructure the whole education sector to better position the MEHRD to provide improved management support to implementation stakeholders, particularly, Education Authorities and School Communities to achieve the national education goals and objectives to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
The Permanent Secretary emphasised the need to work collaboratively to improve support to Education Authorities and schools and communities and to coordinate functions and to strengthen leadership at the National, Provincial and Education Authority and local levels.
He pointed out that much has been progressed particularly at the ministerial level with the appointments of senior managers and the workshop was held purposely to engage them and heads of divisions reach a conclusion to the restructuring exercise at the ministry level.
