Eleoteve Community in Southeast Vella Constituency, Western Province is in a one-day lockdown starting this morning.
The 24 hour lockdown starts at 6am and will be lifted tomorrow morning – Thursday 27th at 6am.
A Committee Task Force has been set up already which consist of leaders, community leaders, head of organizations, and stakeholders such as schools.
The purpose of the lockdown is purposely to get the community acquaint and familiarize with the real measures to take when there is a confirmed community transmission.
Eleoteve COVID-19 Task Force Committee Interim Chairman, Silas Izomo explained this lockdown exercise is to prepare the village to avoid any community transmission.
Mr. Izomo said during the lock down a number of regulations and guidelines have been put in place.
These include; no incoming visitors, movements by villagers not allowed, all canteens must not open, no gardening or fishing and any other activities are prohibited.
However, Izomo said the only problem they face is sanitation as not all families have proper sanitation facilities.
He said responsible committee will take into consideration and takes responsibility on how to deal with this issue.
Between 300 to 500 people are living in the community according to the this year’s Polling Station data and Statistics.
