Solomon Islands most capped football player, Henry Fa’arodo Junior will once again wear the arm band to take on the captaincy role for the two friendly matches.
This was confirmed, Tuesday by the head coach Spaniard Felipe Vega-Arango before the team’s departure for Fiji.
“Henry is very important; he’s played for the squad for 10 years.
“He’s an experience player, a serious player and trains hard every day.
“He helps the players to understand what it means to be in the national team.
“He is the top choice for captain and everybody wants him to be the captain,” he said.
Fa’arodo is not new to this task as he was mostly the first choice for the role in the previous squads.
He said it has always been an honour to take the arm to represent the country.
“It’s always been an honour to play and to lead Solomon Islands and I look forward to that,” he said.
He added whilst he has a big responsibility as captain, the friendly matches are very important as it will help them know their standard following weeks of training under Spaniard Felipe Vega-Arango.
“These two matches are very important especially for the coaching staff so they can identify which areas we need to work more on before our matches against PNG.
“They have seen us in training but this is totally different, since we will be playing against an opponent,” he added.
Fa’arodo stressed the results of these two matches are not the priority but it will be a bonus.
He added it is building on what they were trained to do and trying out on the new system that matters most.
