FIJI Airways yesterday announced it has withdrawn its membership with the Association of South Pacific Airlines (ASPA) with immediate effect.
The airline made the decision in light of recent strongly “biased public announcements” made by ASPA which it opposes.
These comments relate to the recent issues of air travel services between Fiji and the Solomon Islands which had been amicably resolved between the two Governments.
“Fiji Airways has previously expressed its concerns to ASPA on its Secretary’s biased public comments on the issue and urged it to remain neutral and follow its mandate of capacity building and cooperation of the South Pacific airlines in a fair and professional way without partiality,” it said in a statement.
“Fiji Airways has always maintained that the negotiation of Air Services Agreements is between governments and not airlines.
“Fiji Airways will not seek to regain its membership into ASPA unless there is a change in their leadership and in the public handling of issues.”
