Police have arrested five suspects over a murder on Lord Howe Island. Investigation continues after a fatal fight in Luaniua.
RSIPF/SOLSTAR — Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force have arrested five suspects in connection with a murder incident on Lord Howe Island.
The arrests were carried out following a coordinated operation involving homicide investigators and pathologists, supported by the Police Response Department (PRD). The team travelled aboard the patrol boat Gizo to Luaniua earlier this week.
Police confirmed that the five suspects are currently in custody as investigations into the incident continue.
Preliminary reports allege that the death resulted from a fight among a group, which led to the death of a young man. A post-mortem examination has since been conducted and will form part of the ongoing investigation.

Acting Commissioner of Police Mathias Lenialu acknowledged the support of community leaders in Luaniua, as well as local Crime Prevention Committees (CPCs), for their assistance in addressing the situation and facilitating the arrests.
Mr. Lenialu also extended his condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased during what he described as a difficult time.
He further commended police officers for their dedication and bravery, noting the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions as they carried out their duties in the remote island location.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
