Dear Editor – It is alleged that the dreaded giant African snail was introduced into the country through heavy logging equipment formerly in use in African countries.
That from those countries, the boats that carry these had gone on directly to off load the equipment and their snails at the logging camp sites without the knowledge of Customs and Quarantine officials.
Cases of the deadly Ebola disease are on an alarming increase in at least three central west African countries presently.
Our Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine services should be alert to the possibility of the Ebola virus being introduced into the country through one of the crew of the logging boats coming to the Solomons directly to the log camps from one of these African countries.
We should learn our lesson from the giant African snails so we can protect our country from the deadly African disease known as Ebola to which there is no known cure and spreading at the moment.
