The Solomon Islands Athletes Commission (SIAC) has successfully introduced a new program called the ‘Go Green’ program in Gizo on Tuesday.
The message given to young primary school students is called “Love Your Coast” and it is about keeping the environment clean.
“We educate athletes and the public about “LOVE YOUR COAST” and how important for us to look after our environment.
“SIAC sees it fit to do the awareness in Gizo to schools.”
Head of the SIAC team, Francis Manioru said throwing of rubbish has been a habit and practice to many so it is important to remind people especially the young children to keep their environment clean.
“It is best to educate school children the effects of littering so they get the message at an early age and make it a habit in their lives.”
Western Province is a Tourism destination, so it is very important to do kind awareness.
The program is funded by Olympic Solidarity through the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI).
The Athletes Commission is the Athletes Voice and their link to coaches, sports administrators, national sports federations and the National Olympic Committee EB.
Apart from that SIAC also has other programs like ‘Be A Leader’ where they introduce Excellence for Life so athletes understand the leadership skills.
‘Play True’ is another program where they educate athletes about anti doping, fair play and what happens around drug testing.
Another awareness program is the ‘Play Safe’ program where athletes are taught about stop the spreading of HIV and the dangers of HIV.
