THE Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government says the implementation of its comprehensive development policy intentions and the effective delivery of government services will be the prominent features of the national budget during its tenure in office.
The announcement follows assertions by the Forum Solomon Islands International (FSS) that the DCC Government prioritises the Red House Rebuilding Projects than addressing the development needs of the country.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet said the DCC Government, under its comprehensive development policy, intends to stimulate the national economy by implementing existing major development projects and embarking on a number of new initiatives.
The existing major development initiatives are the Auluta Palm Oil Project, Waisisi Palm Oil Project, Bina Habour Industrial Township Project, Choiseul Bay Township Project, Munda International Airport Project, Tina Hydropower Development Project, Savo Geothermal Project, Noro Industrial Park Project, Fiu Hydropower Project and Suava Loin Factory Project.
“Some of the new DCC development projects include the establishment of rural growth centres in economic viable and feasible clusters throughout the country, establishment of a third international seaport in Temotu Province, reactivating the Russell Islands Plantations Limited and facilitating the establishment of Russell Islands agroforestry and tourism projects, improvement of all domestic airports and associated amenities, establishment of a third referral hospital in Auki and provision of safe and quality water resources to Gizo, Munda and Noro residents,” the statement said.
It added details about these projects and other intended projects of the DCC Government will be made public when the Sogavare-led coalition government launches its policy document before the 50- day period the Prime Minister announced soon after his election on the steps of Parliament, ends.
“The implementation of the existing national government projects and the new projects contained in the Comprehensive Development Policy of the DCC Government to be soon launched and the efficient delivery of government services will be the priorities of the Government.
“The cost for the implementation of the Red House Rebuilding Project will of course be factored into the National budget but this project will not overshadow the outlined priorities of the DCC Government as asserted by the Forum Solomon Islands International.”
