Honiara City Council (HCC) under the leadership of Lord Mayor Edward Kasutee Siapu wants to upgrade the Kukum Area Health Centre as the city’s hospital because of its strategic location.
Lord Mayor Siapu highligthed this during a handover ceremony of the renovated Kukum Area Health Centre on Thursday.
He said his government will pass through a dialogue with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to help with the plan.
Kukum Area Health Centre was closed for renovation for two years and will reopen next week with more suitable spaces and higher medical equipment for its services of health and medical to the people of Honiara and the country.
It is one of the some of the health clinic facilities operating under HCC.
The others included, Naha, Vura, Mataniko Clinic, Mbokonavera, Rove Clinic and White River.
Lord Mayor Siapu expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Australia for funding the renovation work of the clinic and for purchasing new medical equipment.
“Interventions by the Solomon Islands National Government and the Government and the people of Australia in renovating this health clinic will ultimately eventuate in a healthy future for all,” Lord Mayor Siapu said.
He calls on the HCC Health Division to continue welcoming all who seek care, not only residents of Honiara, but also those who travel from all around the country.
“Our role as a city is to save with compassion, ensuring that no one is thrown away in their time of need,” he added.
He thanked the dedicated health workers who will keep Kukum clinic running each day.
“Let us all take pride in this facility and care for it so it can save our people for many years to come,” he added.
