ONE semi-permanent House and a water source have badly been destroyed by landslide this week in central Kwara’ae in Malaita province.
The incident occurred at Aisiko community in Central Kwara’ae after heavy rain started on Friday and continued this week.
A community leader of Aisiko Paul Kabolo said, the family that owns the semi-permanent house were now accommodated at community hall.
There were no casualties, but only major damages of kitchen utensils and gardening stools which were buried.
Water pipes supplying water to communities was badly damaged, he said.
“The four communities which consisted of about 260 people were badly affected, making it difficult to find clean drinking water,” Mr. Kabolo said.
He added that the landslide also covered cocoa, plantation,betel nut patch and few gardens owned by local farmers in Asiko.
Communities are now calling on responsible authorities to assess the damages and support them.
The water source supply was built by the Anglican Church of Melanesia in 1996.
