TWENTY (20) schools in Honiara City will be benefiting from a library project that is currently underway in the capital.
This was emphasized by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), James Bosamata in his remarks to officially handover the Vura School library last Friday.
The project is being funded by the Australia and New Zealand Governments through the Ministry of Education.
“This library project will deliver 20 libraries across Honiara from White River all the way to Burnscreek.
“There are two libraries being completed and six other libraries are currently under construction.
“All on track to be completed by October 2015,” the Deputy Secretary said.
He also said that the objective of the library project is to provide a space for students and promote the enjoyment of reading.
In her speech to handover the library, the Minister Counsellor of the Australian High Commissioners office Sue Connell said, that the Australian and New Zealand Government are very supportive in helping the Solomon Islands Government to improve the quality of education in the country.
“In partnership with New Zealand, the Australian Government supports education in Solomon Islands through budget support to the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.
“We share the Solomon Islands Government’s commitment to improving the quality of education for the children of the Solomon Islands,” Mrs Connell said.
She said as partners, Australia, New Zealand and Solomon Islands are working together to improve literacy in the country.
Meanwhile, she congratulates the Ministry of Education for managing the construction of the Vura School library, which is one of the 20 similar school library projects.
