THE first batch of the 2016 police recruit has been sent out to a number of areas within Honiara City.
This is mainly for the officers to gain first-hand experience on their roles and responsibilities as police officers.
Deputy Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga during the weekly police conference on Thursday said they are trying to get the new officers to understand what is expected of them when going out to the communities.
The areas they are covering are mainly on general duties, minor investigations and traffic work in support of the normal policing areas.
Meanwhile, Ms Matanga added that are they are conducting basic intelligence training for their officers.
She said this training is essential in terms of policing to help officers on what is meant by intelligence work and to assist them on their work to enhance their skills set in order to continue with their work.
“This program is jointly coordinated by the Police Participating Force, our Learning Development as well as our officers within National Intelligence Department.”
She explained that part of the role of the intelligence department is to gather information to assist police on their work.
