The construction of the landside roundabout at Heritage Park in Honiara is progressing in parallel with ongoing land side road rehabilitation works along Mendana Avenue, from the Heritage Park Roundabout to the SIPA Junction at Point Cruz.
Current activities include the installation of roadside kerbing and pavement preparation ahead of the final asphalt surfacing.
These works are essential to ensure the upgraded road meets required engineering standards and is able to withstand increasing traffic demands.
The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), remains committed to completing the landside carriageway works before progressing to the next section, from the SIPA Junction to the Hotbread Roundabout, Land Side.
Works will continue in a staged and sequential manner through Honiara’s main commercial centre, concluding at the MID/HCC Roundabout.
The existing main road through Honiara is known to deteriorate significantly during periods of wet weather, and addressing this issue is a key objective of the current rehabilitation works.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), Mr. Allan Lilia, said, “This project represents a significant investment in improving one of Honiara’s busiest transport corridors. Once completed, it will enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and provide a more durable surface that can better withstand heavy use and challenging weather conditions.”

Due to site constraints, some traffic disruption and congestion are unavoidable during the construction period, particularly in poor weather conditions.
The patience and understanding of the general public including road users, pedestrians, and the business community are acknowledged and greatly appreciated.
Members of the public are advised to exercise caution when travelling through work zones, as ongoing construction activities and changing weather conditions may result in temporary delays and disruptions.
Motorists and pedestrians are strongly encouraged to follow traffic management signage, observe speed limits, and cooperate with traffic controllers to ensure everyone’s safety.
The upgrade works are being carried out by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) under the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP), a joint initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Solomon Islands Government.
