The National Referral Hospital (NRH) Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department on Friday 9th received Mother’s Day gifts from the Solomon Islands Ports Authority and a group of female officers working at the National Parliament, Hansard Department.
The Solomon Islands Ports Authority donated 10-wheel chairs as their community outreach program and the National Parliament Hansard Department female officers donated a wheel chair and mix items of baby towels, baby soaps, lotions, conditioners, diapers and etc.
Speaking during the handover, Solomon Ports Authority Operations Manager James Kabini said, the gifts of 10-wheel chairs is part of Solomon Ports Community outreach program.
“Today we are so humbled to come and donate these 10 wheel-chairs to Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. We hope these wheel-chairs will help the mothers who are in labour and who will be needing it”, said Mr. Kabini.

National Parliament of Solomon Islands, Hansard Department female spokesperson, Mrs. Hazel Taási said the gifts of a wheel-chair and baby gift packs was a part of her team’s savings.
“Apart from our savings, we have a container at our office which our colleagues help by contributing $5 dollars to $20 dollars.
“Therefore, I want to say thank you to our colleagues and friends”, said Mrs. Taási.
She said the donation is not much, but it is from their hearts to the mothers and new born babies.
Speaking on behalf of Obstetric and Gynaecology Department, Consultant, Dr Briley Pinau thanked Solomon Ports Authority for the donation and thanked the donating team for the 10 wheel-chairs.
“These gifts will definitely help mothers admitted at Labour Ward and Postnatal Ward. Thank you, Solomon Ports, for seeing the importance of these gifts”, said Dr Pinau.
Meanwhile, Labour Ward Clinical Nurse Myoonie Kae also shared similar sentiments.
“Some of our mothers who came here to Labour, have nothing as nappies, baby towels or soap for their new born babies. Therefore, these gifts meant a lot and from our hearts I want to sincerely thank you”, said Mrs Kae.
