Sideleve bamboo band from Nusa Roviana in the Western province is $10,000 richer last Saturday after winning the bamboo band competition in the 2013 Lagoon Festival hosted in Munda last Saturday.
Speaking to the paper band manager John Teri said the band was excited with the win and will continue promoting cultural music in the future.
He said all the cultural group that performed last week during the festival in Munda have been outstanding and all are winners but with limited funds from sponsors other bamboos can’t able to get prize.
“Sidavele is proud to get this prize and also revive the culture of bamboo music in Roviana.
“We participate at the festival not to compete but to showcase the culture of Roviana through traditional music.”
The competition was staged last Saturday and a number of groups performed during the musical competition.
Meanwhile Mr Teri also urged the ministry of culture and Solomon Island Visitors Bureau (SIVB) to organise such events in other provinces throughout the country.
Mr Teri thanked the sponsors, festival committee and Dr Transform Aqorau for supporting the Agagana bamboo band from Rendova snatched the second prize of $8000.000.
