THE Seventh-day Adventist church in Solomon Islands has developed its education and health sectors during the last 100 years.
And this year marks another milestone when the government recognised the Church’s endeavour in the field of education.
The Pacific Adventist University (PAU) located near Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea will have its campus here in Solomon Islands.
A statement from the communication department of the church said this will enable those who would like to further their tertiary higher education in various fields including nursing and theological studies to just study at home.
“This is happening this year 2014.
“This is a big step for Solomon Islands, more so the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which is celebrating a centennial of spiritual development with faith and hope of achieving its goals.”
A ground breaking ceremony is expected to happen next week.
Today the church operates two senior secondary schools and a number of junior high schools throughout the country.
The Church also operates a hospital on Malaita (Atoifi Hospital) in the Malaita Province and a number of clinics in Solomon Islands. Atoifi Adventist Hospital also has a nursing school which trains nurses in Solomon Islands and other parts of the Pacific.
So 2014 not only marks 100 years since the church established its footing in Western Province, Solomon Islands but it brings a lot of benefits which will boost the spreading of the good news of salvation to all parts of the country.
“This year the Church is working on a project to establish 9 FM radio stations throughout the country. The Hope FM network has already been established in Honiara and Lata in the Temotu province this year,” the statement said.
It is expected that by the end of this year other locations such as Auki, Gizo, Noro, Choiseul, Kia and Kira Kira will be part of the Hope FM Network.
The visit of the Seventh-day Adventist world spiritual leader, Pr. Ted Wilson, President of the General Conference starting this weekend will surely bring encouragement to the more than 47,000 Adventist members to move forward with the spreading of the gospel throughout the islands.
Pastor Ted Wilson will arrive Sunday afternoon and after making a courtesy call at the Government House to meet the Solomon Islands Governor-General, Sir Frank Kabui, he will fly over to Western Province to physical set his foot in the province where the first Adventist seed was planted in 1914.
Pastor Wilson will be the Speaker on Monday evening at 7pm and Tuesday morning at 8:30am at the Maranatha Hall next week in Honiara. It is expected that some five to six thousands Adventists in Honiara will attend these meetings.
