A peaceful rally to demonstrate Solomon Islands support for West Papua is planned to take place in Honiara City today.
An urgent call for action has been made to the general public on Wednesday to demonstrate Solomon Islands support for West Papua’s membership in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) through the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP).
Reports reaching this paper said, that the MSG meeting next week in Papua New Guinea (PNG) will determine the decision of the Solomon Islands Government weather or not West Papua will grant full membership to the MSG through the ULMWP.
The organizers of the peaceful rally urges the people of Solomon Islands that they must use this opportunity to show to the world that Solomon Islands and its people are standing against human rights violations and stand in solidarity with the people of West Papua in their continuous fight for freedom.
Anyone that wishes to be a part of the rally is asked to be at the Honiara City Council early in the morning before the procession moves down to the Museum auditorium.
This paper understands that, the Member of Parliament (MP) for West Makira Derick Manu’ari will provide a keynote address at the Museum auditorium afterwards.
The organizers are also calling on all interested participants to wear black during the rally or if they could not make it, they can still wear black today to show support for West Papua.
