MALAITA Province successfully staged its provincial election yesterday to elect new Members to the Provincial Assembly (MPA).
Reports said, voting was peaceful and conducted smoothly.
Returning Officer, Thomas Puahikeni told this paper that it was very a peaceful day with voters casting their votes with smiles.
“Voters go to the polling stations freely and vote without any disturbances.
“This peaceful election has signaled how Malaita people are seriousin electing leaders to represent them in the Malaita provincial assembly (MPA) for the next four years,”Mr Puahikeni said.
He hopes the same attitude will continue during counting time.
“Thank you people for behaving peacefully during the voting,” Mr Puahikeni said.
Most of the 32 wards have voted yesterday except for ward nine (9) in Lau Mbaelelea Constituency.
Counting started on Thursday.
