Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele will officially commission the Solomon Islands first embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) this morning, UAE local time.
The country’s new embassy in UAE is manned by Cornelius Walegarea, a former deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
He told Solomon Star online that PM’s delegation arrived at Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning and have settled down in preparation for today’s opening ceremony.
“He is due to open the new embassy this morning (Mon) at 10.30am, UAE local time, (5.30pm SI time).”
Walegarea said, preparation for the opening program is all set with a number of guests expected from the UAE government.
PM left left the country on Friday for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
UAE has become one of our important bilateral partners, and we share areas of common interests.
The opening of the embassy symbolizes the confidence and trust the country had in the bilateral relationship with UAE, more so it presents an opportunity for Solomon Islands to pursue areas of cooperation with UAE.
From Abu Dhabi, the Prime Minster will travel to Saudi Arabia for his state visit.
Prime Minister is expected back in the country on 7th of October 2024.
His Excellency Walegerea took his oath at the Government House in March this year before flying over to UAE.
In April he presented a copy of his letter of Credentials to the Assistant Undersecretary for Protocol Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Saif Abdulla Alshamisi.
