POLICE have over the weekend and this week received a number of wounding cases including serious assaults, reporters were told at the weekly police conference on Thursday.
Deputy Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga said these wounding cases were all related to alcohol.
She is asking everyone, since alcohol is not only an issue for the police as it involves other stakeholders, to report any one manufacturing Kwaso, or selling beers at the black market (illegally) to the police.
“Report it to police so we can work to try and remove those things from the communities.
“We can only succeed in what we do when people can support us.”
She said people in the community are the ones who know who manufacturing the Kwaso and those selling beers at the black market.
“Once you report it to the police, police can work on those areas to try and remove them.”
One of the serious assault cases occurred at Sun Valley on Saturday where a male person aged 20 was arrested and placed in custody.
Ms Matanga said this allegation relates to this person who was drunk and armed with a bush knife.
“He attacked the first victim cutting his nose.
“The victim was rushed to the National Referral Hospital.
“He then attempted to cut another two persons but luckily they were not being harmed,” Ms Matanga told reporters.
She said a case was open for the suspect and hopefully police will be able to take the matter before the court.
“We will get back to reporters with the result of the serious assault,” she said.
Two other wounding cases have occurred on Friday and Sunday at GPPOL, and Bubulake at Gold Ridge area in East and Central Guadalcanal.
Ms Matanga said one of the incidents occurred at about 3am at GPPOL, where a man wounded another man.
She said the victim was taken to the National Referral Hospital for medical treatment.
“Police are continuing to work on the incident to establish the cause of it.”
She calls on the people at GPPOL and Tetere to contact police on 999 or 34508 to help police speed up the investigation.
In the second wounding case that occurred at Bubulake, a man uses a stone to smash the face of another person.
That suspect was now arrested and is due to appear in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court on a later date.
