POLICE’s full scale operation ahead of next week’s National General Election is now in full swing.
Police Commissioner, Frank Prendergast said they will maintain a high visibility presence not only within Honiara but also in the provinces.
He added that with the high visibility presence, Police will also upgrade its traffic checks both day and night, as it vies to crack down on all illegal and unwanted activities that may eventuate during the weeks of the Election process.
“Our high visibility presence will continue so as the ongoing Police traffic checks for unregistered vehicles and also drivers.”
He added that Police patrols will continue in hot spot areas and communities both in Honiara and in the provinces as a means of cracking down on antisocial behaviour and also petty crimes.
He also said that Operation Safe boat will continue to be in effect, as it will ensure people travel safely to and from the provinces during the Election weeks ahead.
Mr Prendergast said that the Operation will continue right through to the Election of the Prime Minister.
“The full scale operation will run through to December and also right to the forming of the new government and the election of the new Prime Minister,” Mr Prendergast said.
Police meanwhile called for public support and assistance during the election weeks ahead as a means of ensuring Solomon Islands enjoys a peaceful election process.
