POLICE are currently on an operation to mediate a standoff between the Kongulai landowners and Government in relation to payments.
Deputy Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga at the said operation by Guadalcanal police and Honiara police are currently going on this week and will continue next week.
She urged the landowners and those residing around the Kongulai water source to listen to advice so that the water catchment does not affected Honiara residents.
“It is important we must respect those facilities because it will help us achieve good outcomes,” Ms Matanga said.
“ This issue is between SIWA and the landowners but as a organisation responsible for police and stability it is important that we must continue to work with our landowners to ensure they understand processes and continue to dialogue with government so that they reached an amicable solution,” she added.
“We are continuing to dialogue with landowners.
“We are working closely with land owners so that they do not destroy equipment there especially the water catchment.
“People in Honiara rely on that and I urge land owners that whilst they have some issues regarding the payment, they must think about the people who rely on the water source.
“Let us work in a way that will reach good solution because by doing that will help all of us.”
