TRUCK owners are urged to abide by the traffic safety rules when loading their vehicles.
Honiara traffic police commander Vincent U’upwe made the reminder.
This was after the Solomon Star exposed an overloaded vehicle along the Prince Philip highway, which led to the arrest of the driver of the vehicle on Tuesday this week.
Mr U’upwe said the driver of the vehicle will now appear in court on the 26 February after he was arrested for the ‘passenger over-loading’ offence under section 46, sub-sections 1 of the traffic safety rule.
He said the arrest is a reminder to all the truck owners to do the right thing and stop overloading their vehicles when on the road.
While overloading is a crime, he also warned that overloading is a very dangerous practice that could lead to road accidents.
The traffic commander also called on the public to work together with the police by reporting any citing of overloading vehicles to police.
He said road safety is everybody’s business and everyone should work together to avoid unwanted accidents relating to overloading.
