A Fashion show might not be popular and regarded just another show for models to feature the different products of dress or wear produced only for high class people.
Imagine if a local woman from a rural village puts on the fashion clothes those in the villages will stare with surprise and probably make fun of that particular person saying he or she must be showing off.
This is why the importance of fashion must be promoted in the country.
Today most of the people prefer to wear different styles of clothing. Unlike before, now many shops have opened up and are selling various fashionable clothing. Not only that but more people who are doing shopping are now looking for new fashion designs when it comes to clothing and other products that will make them look smart and beautiful.
I believing wearing fashionable clothes is a good thing as this will make a person more attractive and as well as well-mannered. Wearing a fashion also portray ones character and profession.
For those who love fashion clothes they noticed clothing is taking a huge role of the image of a person dignity and respect. So people who are wearing stylish clothes are considered as respectable people in the society.
We have seen in our streets, public gathering, shops, office and during any important event that those who wear stylish cloths get more attention than others. So wearing fashionable clothes is essential in our society.
However wearing stylish cloths can also be a bad thing as well if a person doesn’t know what to wear in a situation that will lead to a negative impression.
One of the associations which is trying to encourage local designers to see the importance of fashion is the Association of Solomon Islanders in Creative Fashion (AICF).
Each year they host the Solomon Fashion Week to provide opportunity for local fashion designers, tailors, printers and jewelry makers to exhibit, promote and market their work at the premier fashion exhibition and show.
Over the weekend they hosted their third event witnessed by hundreds of local and overseas guests.
The excitement of the show begins with sarong exhibition featuring the national body builders followed with High School Student Emerging Designers Show from the Woodford International School Designers.
The highlight of the night comes alive when each models catwalk on the stage featuring the varieties of fashion clothes produced by nine local designers.
The designers are Proton Creation, El Fashion, Gloria Beads, Millicent Designs, Vai Tailor, Swaying Palms Fashion, Jaylis Bilas, Mermaid Fashion and Sela lo Sea.
President of ASIICF Justina Radclyffe expressed that the level of design produced by the local designers are overwhelming which shows that Solomon Islands has high potential in the fashion industry.
She said the association is looking at all opportunity to encourage its members both young women and men to make fashion industry in the country meet the international market.
She said by looking at the growth of fashion industry over the past three years Solomon Islands is blessed with talented designers which could expand to other country.
Guest of honor and Managing Director of Fiji Fashion Week Ellen Whippy-Knight said she was impressed to witness a high level of products produced by the local designers in the country.
She said Fashion industry may look small in Solomon Islands but this is big industry around the world.
She said in Fiji Fashion has a big market and Solomon Islands too should tap on the opportunity by encouraging more locals to invest on fashion design.
Meanwhile a designers’ showroom and other activities is open to the public from 4th-9th at the Coral Sea Resort, which is selling and promoting designers handmade products.
Opening hours for the showroom starts 8am-6pm.
