After more than 2 months in the country, the 40 Vietnamese crews who were caught on 26th March stealing beche-de-mers and other marine species at Rennell’s Indispensable reef, detained and charged by the court will be deported on Wednesday.
The crews who are detained on an extended court order at the Rove Police club will be repatriated on Air Niugini tomorrow via the route Honiara- PNG- Singapore- Kuala Lumpur -Vietnam.
This was confirmed yesterday by Fr Hillary Anisi of the Solomon Islands Mission to Seafarers, an organization concerned for seamen’s welfare.
Fr Anisi said was being informed by the Immigration officer Chris Akosawa about the Vietnamese reef robber’s deportation.
“Their fines US$100 equivalent to $800 is expected to be paid and cleared.
“They received money from their immediate family members and the Vietnam government,” Fr Anisi who looks after the illegal fishermen since their detention said.
Mission to Seafarers is a missionary society of the Anglican Church which is committed to promoting the wellbeing of seafarers and their families worldwide.
Fr Hillary Anisi said through his chaplaincy work he provided social welfare support, hospitality, pastoral care, food and a safe environment for the Vietnamese.
“This people are strangers, so I help provide fellowship and share Gods word with them.
“My office help pay food rations, packet of cigarettes and health care when needed,” Fr Anisi said.
The three captains of the blue boats are the ones who will pay for more charges namely, Do Van Va, Vo Van Vi, and Nguyen Nguyen.
Their case is before the High Court.
Immigration officer Chris Akosawa did not answer his phone when called last night.
