A YOUTH Forum for Guadalcanal and Honiara youths was organized, Wednesday at the Saint Barnabas Cathedral premises to give young people an opportunity to raise their voice and concerns in the development of the country.
It was an initiative by the popular non-government organisation (NGO) – Save the Children Australia through its Youth Outreach Partnership Project.
Nine communities who have engaged with Save the Children through the project took part in the forum with other youths living in the city.
In an interview with Save the Children’s Youth and DRR program manager, Nerol Vaekesa – Olea, the forum is also an opportunity for the youths to get advice from responsible stakeholders that are part of the one day event to address the issues the youths raised in terms of development, in the Solomon Islands.
She added that, a similar event (Youth Forum) was also held in Malaita where six communities took part in.
The program manager said that, Save the Children through its youth outreach project also engages with some communities in Western and Choiseul provinces respectively and they are planning a much bigger event so their scheduled forum for yesterday could not proceed because it was rescheduled for a later date.
This paper understands that, the youth forum coincides with the international youth day 2015 yesterday with the theme: “Youth Civic Engagement”.
