Small Malaita Constituency Office (SMCO) has received the preliminary engineering assessment report to prepare proper infrastructure plan towards the development of the Afio Economic Growth Centre (EGC) and its supporting infrastructure development projects.
Director Engineering and Infrastructure Development of the Ministry of Rural Development Allen Ilia on Monday17th August handed over the report to the constituency office.
The report was initiated by Member of Parliament (MP) Rick Hou.
The handing over of the report was witnessed by the SMC Officers including Rick Houenipwela, MP for Small Malaita Constituency (SMC).
Also present at the handover ceremony was the SMC technical team and few other constituents.
In a statement, the SMC Office said, that the assessment report is a result of the visions and active involvement of the current MP as he sees this is important for the long-term development goal of the SMC Development Plan.
“The report will be pursued to be included under the SI Infrastructure Development Program.”
When handing over the report to the Constituency Development Officer (CDO) of SMC, Mr Ilia, stated that the completion of the report is the result of many days of field survey in Small Malaita and was made possible with the help of the SMCO, chiefs and elders in Small Malaita who are desperate to see tangible development on the island.
In receiving the report the CDO stressed that the development of road alignment in SMC is a long term plan and this is just the beginning of scoping work which will continue on the Infrastructure Development Program that will cover the whole island.
He calls on the people of Small Malaita to work together and allow their land for the proposed road transportation network.
In his acknowledgment remarks the CDO thanked Mr Ilia for his diligent work in conducting a preliminary engineering assessment for the proposed road network in SMC.
