HONIARA City resident Alex Siosi has strongly condemned the continuous smoking in public transports normally practiced by cab drivers, bus drivers, and conductors.
He told this to the Solomon Star in an interview on Wednesday after he came across this annoying experience when he boarded a public bus to Point Cruz, last Friday.
“It is sad that people are not adhering to the laws on the land.
“It is sad to see that smokers are still ignorant of the law to ban smoking in public vehicles.
“This is still a problem for most of us non-smokers when boarding these buses. It seems that they are not respecting the law and their fellow passengers on board their vehicles,” Siosi said.
He moved on to question how effective the Tobacco Control Act 2010 was.
“What has the responsible authorities done to date and what happened to theTobacco Control Act 2010.
“It is sad that everybody have not acted upon the law that was passed by the National Parliament”.
Speaking to Solomon Star, Siosi said he could not hold back his anger during his encounter with the bus driver and his conductor as he shouted at both of them for what they have done, which is illegal.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services also warned the smokers to adhere to the Tobacco Control Act 2010.
