PRIMARY school students of St Nicholas Anglican College (SNAC) in Honiara on Friday successfully hold its 2025 annual speech competition.
The speech competition was held at the assembly hall. It was organised to select their speech representative for the upcoming Anglican Church of Melanesia Schools, Institutions and Communities (ACOMSIC) Games that will occur from 15th to 21st June this year.
Students of years 4, 5, and 6 participated in the competition based on the topic: ‘Road Safety is Everyone’s Responsibilty’ which came under this year’s theme: ‘Voices of the Future’ Inspiring Change, Embracing Growth.’.
The contestants in their speech highlighted a number of issues and the need for active participation when it comes to road safety; road crossings, zebra crossings, traffic rules and protocols such as wearing seat belts, not driving when under the influence of alcohol and no texting while driving, cyclists wearing helmets, etc.
They also touched on the need for road safety awareness and the need to enhance road monitoring systems and vehicle inspections to ensure only qualified drivers are allowed on the road.
Judges of the speech competition included: Lynnette Tokuru, SNAC Secondary English Head of Department; John Patteson Dora, Principal for Charles Elliot Fox Primary School; and Obrian Dii, Principal for Norman Palmer Primary School.
Following the speech day, the winners were declared which included: First place: Gaseteo Baragamu, year 6; Second place: Ruth Trishna, year 5; Third place: Bethiezel Leping, year 6.
On behalf of the AcoM Education Authority, AcoM Education Officer, Peter Tahiliu thanked the primary school strand of hosting the event and for seeing it fit to have the speech competition in preparation for the ACOMSIC Games this year.
Chairman of Arts and Culture Committee, Sala Fairari thanked the committee members for their hard work and dedication towards hosting the event and making it a reality,
Another event, which is upcoming this Friday will be their cultural show where they will select their King and Queen for the ACOMSIC Games mid this year.
