FOUR students from various high schools in the country are part of the Solomon Islands team participating in the Melanesian School Debate Competition (MSD) held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
They are; Tanya Wickham (Saint Nicholas), Jessica Parapolo (KG Sixth School), Denmark Pahu (Betikama Adventist College) and Isaac Barley (Selwyn College).
The MSD is an initiative derived from the success of the first ever Regional Youth Parliament (RYP) held in September 2013 which Solomon Islands was a part of.
Countries participating in the first ever MSD include; host country, PNG, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.
Speaking before their departure over the weekend, team leader, Isaac Barley said that he and his fellow colleagues are indeed excited to be part of a historical event such as the MSD.
“We are indeed excited to be part of the first ever MSD.
“We have been waiting and preparing for this competition and I believe all four of us are ready to do Solomon Islands proud at this competition,” Barley said.
Accompanying Team Solo to the MSD, Ms Jasmine Waleafea said that she is indeed proud of the four students representing the country, adding that she knows they will go far in the competition.
