The Western provincial government will be funding three new fisheries centre this year.
The approval was made at this week’s full assembly meeting in Gizo by the current Western provincial government.
The meeting which kicked off on Tuesday was officially opened by the premier Robert Pye Kuve at the Chacha conference room.
Speaking to the Solomon Star yesterday provincial finance minister Lester Huckle said the province would build three new fisheries centre starting April this year.
He said this is important to support fishermen and women who are struggling to seek income to support their families welfare such as education, health and other basic needs.
The centre will be built in Gizo, Vella La Vella and Bunikalo on Gatokae, Marovo Lagoon.
“This would enable fishermen and women to sell their fish at these centres rather than traveling over to Gizo or Honiara,” the provincial finance minister said.
With the project now approved, work is expected to start soon.
