HONIARA city will be expecting temporary disruption with the traffic this morning during the funeral procession of the late Sir Peter Kenilorea.
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will be conducting traffic controls and will be disrupting traffic within parts Honiara City this morning.
A statement from the Police said, “the temporary traffic disruption will coincide with the funeral procession that will be carried out in respect to the State Funeral Service for the Late Sir Peter Kenilorea.”
Motorists and other road users are advised that police escort team will use the main road from the residence of Late Sir Kenilorea at East Kola Ridge to the Parliament at Vavaya Ridge from 7:30 am to 8am.
Parliament members and other dignitaries and members of the public will pay tribute to the body of the late Sir Peter Kenilorea from 8:00 am until 1: 30 pm.
The casket will be escorted by the RSIPF including relatives to the South Seas Evangelical Church (SSEC) next to the Central Honiara markets.
The Church service will be conducted from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. At 5pm, the body of the late Sir Peter Kenilorea will be taken straight to the main wharf where it will be taken on board a police patrol boat to his home village at Rara in East Are’Are on Malaita for burial.
Police is calling on all vehicle drivers and other road users in Honiara to respect the police escort motorcade during the hours from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm today to enable the procession for the body of the Late Sir Peter Kenilorea to be conducted without disruption.
