Power supply in Malaita provincial capital Auki was disrupted since 10pm on Friday after a Toyota hilux smashed an electric post in the township.
Solomon Islands Electricity Authority officers in Auki have to work throughout the night until 12pm yesterday when they were able to restore supply.
The vehicle hit the post in front of the BSP and ANZ banks.
An eye-witness said the vehicle was owned by Henry Lava, a mechanic who owns a workshop near Kilu’ufi hospital.
Lava was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The eye-witness said the driver was travelling at a very high speed.
“He was making a turn when he hit the post, disrupting power supply to most part of the township,” the eye-witness said.
Malaita Provincial Police Commander Alfred Uiga was not available when contacted yesterday for comments.
