Dear Editor – The Honiara City Council law enforcement officers say that they want the trees along Mendana Avenue to be cut down as they are providing shade for sellers of betel nut and cigarettes.
Let me see if I have got this right. The City Council officers want to remove the things that can’t move (the trees) in the hope that the ones who can be moved (the betel nut sellers) will move.
What kind of bizarre logic is that?
These officers describe themselves as law enforcement officers.
Would it not be better if they actually enforced the law by arresting anyone who breaks the City Council laws rather than bringing in chain saws to remove the few remaining shade trees in Honiara?
