The owner of newly opened Zaru Hotel in Gizo Western Province is calling on local tourism operators in the Western Province to work together to strengthen the industry and attract more visitors to the region.
Speaking to the Solomon Star in an interview during the grand opening of his hotel on Tuesday, Jacob Kwan, said tourism operators, including hotel owners, tour guides, transport providers and cultural groups, must unite and promote Gizo and surrounding islands as a complete travel destination rather than competing individually.
Mr. Kwan, who currently operates other businesses including Aveala Restaurant and Restaurant House said collaboration is key to rebuilding the tourism sector following years of challenges brought about by global economic pressures
“We all depend on each other,” he said. “When visitors come to Gizo, they don’t only stay in hotels. They book tours, visit dive sites, buy local crafts and use transport services. If we coordinate better, everyone benefits,” he added.
He stressed that joint marketing efforts, improved communication, and the creation of package deals could help increase visitor numbers.
According to Mr. Kwan, the Western Province has immense tourism potential, with its pristine beaches, world-class diving spots and rich cultural heritage.

He also encouraged closer cooperation with the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau (SIVB) to ensure local operators are included in national tourism promotions.
Mr. Kwan believes that by presenting a united front and maintaining high service standards, Gizo can position itself as one of the leading tourism hubs in the Solomon Islands.
He urged stakeholders to begin dialogue soon, saying the future growth of tourism in the Western Province depends on strong partnerships and shared vision.
“This is my biggest ever project for me and my family and God have answered my prayers ,” Kwan added.
“Once again I will want to thank each and everyone for their support in completing my hotel project,” he said
