Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele has reiterated that Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) remains confident to delivering its role to transform national economy despite global challenges.
These challenges included the latest US president Donald Trump’s sweeping 10 percent tariff to all pacific islands countries including Solomon Islands.
In a press conference on Monday held at the Office of the Prime and Cabinet he updated the media about the priorities of his government for 2025.
“Ladies and gentlemen 2025 is going to be another challenging year for our country and our people with the ongoing global conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza has impacted our economy negatively.
“These effects will be magnified by the recent imposition of tariffs by the US to all countries including Solomon Islands and some of our important trading important partners.”
He assured that despite the challenges, his government remains focus to steer the country’s economy forward.
“Despite these setbacks my government is confident that Solomon Islands will navigate the trade and economic challenges and stay focus on this role to transform the economic, social, cultural, spiritual and political landscape of our country through implementation of strategic pillars.
“These four policy priorities are; Economic Transformation; Infrastructure Development; Unity and Stability; and Human Capital development,” PM Manele stressed.
