The launch marks an important development in that region

Metropolis Mamara Development Limited has officially launched its ice cream factory today, Wednesday 22nd April at Mamara, North West Guadalcanal under Azure Spring Company Ltd, marking a significant milestone in the area’s ongoing development.
The opening ceremony represents one of the company’s key achievements for 2026, as efforts continue to transform Mamara into a growing economic hub and planned Special Economic Zone.
The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Commerce, Labour and Immigration, Manasseh Sogavare.
It was witnessed and attended by Guadalcanal Premier Willie Atu, members of the Guadalcanal Provincial Executive, government officials, chiefs, and community leaders.

Also present were Mr. Hii Yii Ging, Vice Chairman of the Mamara–Tasi-Mavo Council and Director of the development company, Mr. Riley Mesepitu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration, Mr. Maesac Suia, Provincial Secretary of Guadalcanal Province, Madam Gaosu Jie, Manager of Azure Spring Company Ltd, and Ms. Lynette T. Dawheya, Director of the Foreign Investment Division.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Hii Yii Ging described the occasion as historic, noting that the factory is the first industry established under the Mamara–Tasi-Mavo Council.
“This is a very remarkable day to be remembered,” he said. “I thank all council members and the government for their support in making this project a reality.”

He also acknowledged the Guadalcanal Provincial Government and the national government for their confidence in supporting investment in Mamara.
Meanwhile, Premier Willie Atu highlighted the importance of the factory, describing it as the first manufacturing investment in the Mamara area and a major step forward in Guadalcanal’s industrial development.
He outlined key benefits expected from the project, including increased revenue, job creation, infrastructure development, support for small and medium enterprises, environmental sustainability, and reduced reliance on imported goods.

“Mamara is a planned Special Economic Zone, and developments like this will help transform the area into a hub for economic activity,” he said.
Premier Atu further called on the national government to ensure stability and fully implement key investment policies to support future developments, while emphasizing stronger collaboration between government and investors.
The launch of the Mamara Ice Cream Factory marks another significant step forward in Guadalcanal Province’s drive toward economic growth and industrial expansion.
Most of the ice-cream products are expected to hit the local markets soon.
