THE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Australian company Axiom Mining, Ryan Mont, will highlight the significance of the mining industry to the country’s economy in the future during the 7th Australia Solomon Islands Business Forum and Business Mission in Honiara from June 15 – 19.
Mount has been pencilled to speak on the event on the subject Nickel and Gold.
He said: “I am honoured to be given the opportunity to speak at one of Solomon Islands’ premier events for the business community, as one of the mining industry’s representatives and to be able to promote sustainable investment and development in the Isabel province.”
Mr Mount said, mining has the potential to really power the Solomon Islands’ economy.
“Even though mining is a non-renewable industry with a limited lifespan—if done responsibly and sustainably, mining can leave a positive legacy for future generations,” Mr Mount said.
He added: “Over time, mining generates the development of a strong skills base and community capacity. With these, other sustainable industries like tourism, agriculture or horticulture, can blossom.”
According to Mount, also from mining royalties gained—governments can fund the overall improvement in quality of life for citizens with better education and infrastructure.
Delegates for the Forum will start arrive in the next few days.
The Forum will focus on identifying the issues which need to be addressed to improve the business enabling environment in Solomon Islands and to create sustainable economic growth.
The theme of the Forum is “Signposting The Path To Sustainable Economic Growth”.
