The East Central Guadalcanal Constituency (ECGC) has received a significant boost to its transport capabilities, thanks to the generous support from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Solomon Islands.
Recently, the Embassy donated a 60HP engine and an Outboard Motor (OMB) Fibreglass boat valued at SBD $148,000 under its Community Microprojects Fund, which targets tangible improvements for rural communities.
ECGC Constituency Development Officer (CDO) Reuben Masu’u emphasized that transportation remains a top priority for the constituency.
“Our farmers have long struggled to transport fresh produce to the Honiara market in a timely manner. That is why this support from the PRC is so deeply appreciated by our Member of Parliament, the ECGC office, and most importantly, by the communities who will directly benefit from this transport project,” he said.
Mr. Masu’u further noted that the outboard motor (OBM) will also facilitate health-related travel and support a range of other development activities within ECGC.

ECGC Member of Parliament Alfred Lazarus Rimah expressed his gratitude on behalf of his constituents.
“On behalf of my people, I assure you that we will put this support to its best possible use. This project will serve our students, farmers, the sick, and all community-related activities.
“Transport difficulties in reaching Honiara have been a long-standing challenge, but today and into the future, I believe we will overcome this problem, thanks to your generous support for this transport initiative,” Mr. Rimah stated.
PRC representative Wenglong Gu reaffirmed the People’s Republic of China’s commitment to Solomon Islands’ development.
“The PRC is very pleased to work closely with ECGC and other constituencies across Solomon Islands. We have provided boats, outboard motor engines, and canoes to improve sea transport in many parts of the country. This support is intended to ease longstanding transport challenges faced by ECGC communities and to improve access to essential services and economic opportunities,” Mr. Gu said.
He added, “The PRC’s assistance consistently aligns with the Solomon Islands National Development Strategy 2026–2035 and its vision of ‘Improving the Social and Economic Livelihoods of All Solomon Islanders.’”
The Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) also acknowledged the PRC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing rural livelihoods and raising living standards for Solomon Islanders. The Ministry called on ECGC to utilize the assistance transparently and effectively for the benefit of its communities.
As Solomon Islands continues its development journey, the continued support of the PRC remains invaluable. The MRD looks forward to further collaboration with the PRC and other partners to foster sustainable development across rural communities in Solomon Islands.
